Caroline Knowles is a professor of Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London as well as Director of the British Academy’s Cities and Infrastructure programme, so it’s safe to say she knows a few things about what it takes to create sustainable, resilient and inclusive cities.
Her new book Serious Money: Walking Plutocratic London, takes a look at how the wealth of the super rich is “burning up the environment and swallowing up the city,” so we got in touch with Caroline to ask about why London is so attractive to the one percent and what effect their money has on the daily lives of the not-so-wealthy (clue: it’s not ‘trickling down’).
