You’ve got to do what’s right for you, but selfishly I want LiB to continue in whatever way it needs to to be fanatically viable. I moved to London just under 2 years ago and it has been absolutely invaluable - and essential - reading ever since. It’s fantastic work and you’ve had a real positive impact.
No matter what, good luck. And if you have the opportunity, don’t worry about refunding me for this month. Hopefully see you on the other side ☺️
Genuinely gutted. If there is a way to keep the refunds manually from particular subscribers feel free to do so for mine - your newsletter has been brilliant and I feel I have gotten far more than my money's worth.
Personally, a less frequent newsletter (perhaps once a week or even fortnightly?) if it felt more manageable to you, would to me still be fully worth paying for.
LiB is a great read, as was The Big Smoker and Londonist in its early days. Hopefully you'll come back in some form for all of us with a passion for London. A weekly publication would be great, with maybe less about start-up eateries (or is that me?). Take a sabbatical and return with a less demanding schedule.
Enjoy the break, Rob. I have so enjoyed LIB, your insights, recommendations and interviews about this great city. Thank you for championing London and all its bits. LiB will be sorely missed. And don’t fret about my refund.
Totally understand your decision process - but I wonder if maybe you could consider just doing the weekend edition keeping the current subscribers model? Or even go full paid for just that 1 newsletter/week.
I love this newsletter and it'd be a shame to not be able to read it going forward 😥
First, selfishly about myself. I am quite a fresh immigrant (5 years is nothing) from another metropolis city who is completely, madly in love with London. I always wanted to know more and more and much more about what goes on in the city, and embrace it wholeheartedly with all its virtues and flaws. But when I got here, there was nothing close to what I wanted to know about London: Londonist, Secret London and Time Out were completely hollowed out, and local borough news were, well, too local. So when I stumbled upon LiB back in April 2021, that was an instant match. I like your style, your irony and your passion about the city. I argue with you in my head about some of opinions, both yours and your contributors'. I also steal a lot of your news into my extremely unpopular Telegram channel on life in the UK that I share with my wife (we write in our native language, so you won't find it and definitely won't become it's 8th reader). I do attribute LiB most of the times, in my defence.
Thank you for what you have been doing. I wish you all the happiness and a perfect balance in life. I will be happy if LiB returns, but it's still great that we've all had it for more than 2 years. Be well.
I only discovered LiB recently but I think it is a great newsletter. I have lived in London most of my life and the snippets of news and highlights around what is happening in the capital: art, culture, new openings, politics are great and have helped me to reconnect with this bonkers, beautiful city. Whatever you decide to do next, I hope it is what is best for you - writing should never become a burden, and your writing presents a lovely lens on London life. If you do decide to come back to the newsletter maybe keep to the weekly round up and then the interviews less frequently, perhaps stretched out once a month. That said, I enjoy all your posts. I am relatively new to Substack and I am a cautious subscriber but I have had no regrets in my choice to be a paid subscriber to LiB.
only just discovered LiB and was thoroughly enjoying it. just what I was looking for as a digest on London life. will be sad to see this go, but look forward to your possible return. would be happy to continue to pay for the service in future. take care and all the best. cheers
Really sorry to hear this, but totally understand. Consider getting someone else involved to split the workload? Make it fortnightly? Enjoy the break and good luck - whatever way you decide to go ...
Hi. First - do what's right for you. If you have to build from scratch, so be it. You probably already know what's likely to be the best solution, so work on it. I think you'll be welcomed back with open arms if you decide to continue! Take care.
Sorry to hear this, but understandable. I do hope you come back and I’d happily subscribe when you do (fairly new subscriber so sorry I haven’t yet!) I’m sure if you did a fresh appeal you’d get a good number of sign ups. Thanks for the great reads
I've really appreciated the newsletter and if you do come back in some form I'd happily subscribe again in whatever you feel makes it worth the effort. There was no "all of the above option" on the poll, but I don't mind any of the ones listed! I hope you enjoy your break!
Hey Rob, thanks for updating us like that.

Take the break you need, Rob. I hope you're back in a way that works for you. This Monday morning got a little bit more grim.
